Workshops
BOOKS IN THE BOX for teachers
This is a mobile workshop demonstrating simple book binding techniques that can be replicated with everyday school materials. Thus, workshop leaders can develop their own book making activities which can be adapted to primary, secondary and higher education levels. Each of the six boxes contains:
- A particular binding technique illustrated by one or more prototypes (fold and cut, accordion, etc.)
- A sheet with a step-by-step explanation of the process
- Examples of different types of books (illustrated books, small editions, artists’ books, etc.)
- Some of the tools, templates and materials needed to make a book.
Pre-booking required // €300 for a full day and €150 for half a day.
Pop-up books
This workshop takes an overall look at the mechanisms of pop-up and animated books, including the steps involved in making one from the choice of paper to creating the cover:
- A brief history of the animated book illustrated by original works
- The theory behind the different animation systems
- Learning the main mechanisms used to animate an image, adding movement, pop-up features, surprise, interactivity, by looking at 40 or so systems (each participant will make their own models)
- Experimentation, research and creation based on the systems studied
- Discovering the various assembly techniques suitable for pop-up books (accordion, stitching, rings, etc.)
- Creation of a simple binding to assemble the models studied
This workshop is for anyone who is interested in book animation systems, illustrators, graphic designers, scenographers, students and teachers for instance.
