Our classified works
The Wallonia-Brussels Federation classifies as “Treasures” items of movable cultural heritage with artistic, historic or archaeological value. The classification is based on aesthetic appeal, rarity and links with history.
Today, 10 of the works at the Domain & Royal Museum of Mariemont have this important mark of recognition:
Sculpture
Les Bourgeois de Calais [The Burghers of Calais] by the sculptor Auguste Rodin (classified in 2011)
Movable heritage :
The clock case and mechanism of the grandfather clock by Henri Rossius (clockmaker) and Louis Lejeune (carpenter and cabinet maker) (classified in 2011)
The earthenware wine jug with aquatic decor from the Imperial Kiln Sites of Jingdezhen in Southern China (Ming dynasty) (classified in 2023)
Archaeology
Eight fresco panels from the Villa de Boscoreale said to belong to Publius Fannius Synistor (classified in 2010)
Ritual basin of King Den (formerly the Mortier du roi Den [Mortar of King Den]) dating back to the 1st dynasty (classified in 2021)
Two pieces of an Egyptian colossus dating back to the Ptolemaic period: a bust of a Ptolemaic queen and hands (classified in 2021)
Flabellum (classified in 2021)
The bust of Queen Berenice dating back to the Ptolemaic period (classified in 2023)
Archives
A group of autographs from the Warocqué collection dating from the 12th to 20th century (classified in 2023)
Manuscript
An autograph manuscript of La légende d'Uylenspiegel [The Legend of Uylenspiegel] written by Charles De Coster, dating back to 1867 (classified in 2023)
