Project « From archive to object: a history of the Mariemont collections »

The Royal Museum of Mariemont has quite exceptional archives we can use to study the history of Mariemont from the arrival of the Warocqué family in the early 19th century onwards. Letters and invoices from Raoul Warocqué’s time (1870-1917) are particularly useful in providing an understanding of the circumstances surrounding the acquisitions and thus explaining the provenance of many pieces in the Mariemont collections.

The archives produced by the public institution since 1920 also tell us about the life of the works (their acquisition, analysis, display). We are currently studying this immensely useful documentary resource for the benefit of all the Mariemont departments.
