The Texture of Practice: Sri Lanka’s Great Stupa

from 1 February 2025 to 20 April 2025

Descriptif

An extension to the exhibition Sensing the Buddha

Amongst the treated subjects, the “Sensing the Budda” exhibition addresses one of Buddhism's major pilgrimage sites: the stupa. This domed architectural structure enshrines the bodily relics of the Historical Buddha. The Ruwanwelisaya stupa in Sri Lanka is one of the world's tallest religious monuments and has been massively visited for more than two thousand years.

Stanley Staniski's immersive video installation “The Texture of Practice: Sri Lanka's Great Stupa” takes viewers on a day of worship at the foot of the Great Stupa, inviting them to experience the emotional power of this extraordinary site. It is also an opportunity for Mariemont to shed new light on contemporary creation, echoing the history of its collections and heritage.

The video – accessible free of charge - can be viewed in the room “salle carrée” on level -1 of the Museum. It lasts approximately 15 minutes. Ambient sound, no narration.
